   -

Try to visit the school your child will attend, including the classroom, cafeteria, playground and bathroom (make sure they know how to use public toilets). Try to introduce him/her to their new teacher.

   -  Remember not to label children's clothing, backpack, lunchbox or other items with the child's name. Try using initials for identification OR write on the inside of the garment or accessory.
   -  Shop for new clothes and school supplies to get your child excited about school. Certainly use the hand-me-downs, but one or two new things will be helpful.
   -  Walk with your child to the school bus, learning the route with him/her, pointing out landmarks on the way. Talk about the rules of bus safety or walking with a buddy to and from school.
   -  Be sure your child knows his/her full name, address and phone number. Also write the information on a little card and tape it to the inside of their shoe.
   -  Be careful not to make too big a deal about the play and games aspect of school. Tell them that learning is important business, but it can also be fun.
